The Solid Waste and Recycling (SW&R) Commission consists of seven Hamden residents who volunteer their time to act as an advisory committee to the Town. They are appointed by the Mayor. SW&R Commission members volunteer their time to help at events in Town, i.e. The Hamden Earth Day Celebration, the Brooksvale Fall Festival as well as volunteer to help register vehicles and handle traffic flow at HazWaste Central in New Haven and at electronics collections that the Town previously held. SW&R Commission members have in the past sold composters to residents and explained how to compost.
