Our Purpose

to conduct community information & education programs, to increase understanding of & solutions to environmental problems, and advise the Selectboard regarding natural resources to enhance the long-range value of our environment. The SCC seeks to fulfill this mission by holding a Community Forum for the townspeople to share what is important and is committed to expanding our work to include conservation of important lands. Recently the SCC has: Co-sponsored a workshop with the Town of Wallingford for homeowners on energy efficiency; partnered with Neighborworks of Western VT to conduct home energy audits; hosted a Harvest Festival for local "green" businesses; hosted an invasives eradication course, and formed and volunteered for the Shrewsbury school recycling program. Since 1998, the highlight of SCC's work is an annual Green Up Day, breakfast and garbage sorting at the Transfer Station. 100+ people participate.
