Our Purpose

With thousands losing their jobs across Vermont and state-operated food shelves inundated with people to feed, ShiftMeals serves as a safety net for those negatively impacted by the pandemic. ShiftMeals is a dynamic COVID-19 food response program that provides free nourishing meals and collective community gardens to food and job-insecure Vermonters. We exist and operate as a collaborative project led by six Womxn and Femmes out of our parent-organization, The Skinny Pancake. Then, ShiftMeals partnered with the Vermont Everyone Eats program located in Chittenden County, Franklin/Grand Isle, and Central Vermont, funded by the federal government to provide thousands of free, locally-sourced, nutritious, restaurant-made meals to hungry Vermonters. These meals allow participating restaurants, also struggling due to COVID-19, to earn money by preparing balanced dishes for the food-insecure with at least 10% of Vermont-based ingredients. Additionally, ShiftMeals BIPOC Food Sovereignty Program sets out to support Vermonters of color involved in food and land stewardship work by building resources, creating community, developing educational-social programming, and collaborating with other existing BIPOC-led initiatives.
