Seacoast Climate Action NOW (Seacoast CAN)
Our Purpose
Seacoast Climate Action Now is a not-for-profit group that believes that the urgency of our regional and global challenges require immediate action. With the understanding that we are all in this together we work to mitigate the drawdown of greenhouse gases and equitable adaptation to our changing world. We have several working groups Portsmouth Climate Action, TCAG (Transportation Climate Action Group), Veg'n Out Seacoast, WRAD (Waste Reducation and Diversion), and Reuseable Seacoast (pilot project that's finishing up). The groups include board and community members designed to address our urgent climate issues locally first, aka Seacoast NH. We are working towards plug-in solar intiatives within state allowances, uplifting plant rich diets, repair clinics/composting to reduce waste, and outreach by connecting with school Eco Clubs and hosting Community Climate Conversations, and working with the cities, particularly Portsmouth on the Bike/Pedestrian Plan update and rollout. We are a fully volunteer board in need of a project manager who can coordinate all the projects currently moving forward. We also are working on and could use guidance in the marketing/social media arena. We are considering funding some small scholarships for climate active junior and high school students. We hope that you will consider our group for a grant to drawdown greenhouse gases equitably and grow together towards a sustainable life.
Summary of Projects
In 2009, the group received a grant to purchase needed equipment (tools for energy raisers); to purchase marketing materials (banners, posters, borchures, stationary); to pay fees necessary to develop a solid web site.
