Our purpose is to cancel the basing of eighteen F-35 military jets at the Burlington International Airport. The noise from current military aircraft based in Burlington, the F-16, has rendered 1000 homes unfit for occupancy, and 200 of these have been acquired and demolished. The F-35, rated by the Air Force as being more than four times louder, will render nearly 3,000 homes unfit for residential use. A primary school is in the zone zone. The stress-trauma due to intense jet fighter noise will affect the physical health, cognitive development, and well-being of many, including our most vulnerable. Many of the homes are occupied by refugees resettled in the Burlington area. The City of Burlington owns the airport and has authority to allow or cancel the basing. The Save Our Skies BTV group is organizing to get a resolution on the ballot for a Town Meeting vote advising the City Council to request the cancellation of the planned basing of the F-35.
