Our purpose is to...We aspire to begin a Gardening Club that would meet one day a week after school. Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade students will be invited to join and participate. Seeds will be started inside in March & April, and each planting/growing event will be aligned with the proper curriculum. The dirt is currently covered end to end with weed block & mulch. It is a sunny, completely walled-in courtyard with a water source— perfect for the concept! We have been notified by DigSafe that no problems exist. I will test the soil through UMass Amherst.My youngest child is in 2nd grade, so I have three years to develop this. In that time, I would like to see a vegetable garden, a vine-supporting trellis over one pathway (the preschoolers play here), a bench, a fountain (standard or drinking) and the school theme "Riverside Rockets" incorporated into the perennial garden.
