RWOF works to educate communities in southern Maine about sustainable, local food systems and to ensure access to affordable, organic food for people living in those communities. The educational activities are structured to connect the citizenry with the food they eat, the landscape and the folks that grow the food. It actively recruits and trains volunteers to assist with farm activities, host apprentices and interns who are interested in pursuing careers in farming or related professions and sponsors workshops and classes for local gardeners. It promotes food security through a farm to school program involving over 1600 students and teachers in a common effort to grow food for the school lunch program and taste testings.
