Our Purpose

to change the way our society understands human manure: to stop seeing it as a waste to be disposed of, and to start recognizing it as a resource to be reclaimed. Our aim is to lead by example, creating working systems that recycle human manure (which includes both urine and feces) into sanitized fertilizer that is then reused on farms.

Summary of Projects

The Institute received a Grow grant in 2013 to complete a second season of field trials scaling up our operations and increasing outreach to advance and promote the use of human waste as a resource. Processes will be refined at this second phase and equipment and infrastructure will be designed for permanence, automation and robustness.
