RI Seafood Marketing Collaborative
Our Purpose
A Rhode Island Seafood Marketing Collaborative (RISMC) has been legislated in Rhode Island by Senator Susan Sosnowski to support the idea of promoting local wild-caught fish, providing access to new markets for our fisheries industry to sell locally with the intent to increase the income of fishers, and offer informational messages to our citizens about the benefits of buying local products for the health and well being of our Rhode Islanders. This legislated bill was approved by the General Assembly and signed by Rhode Island Governor Chafee. Senator Sosnowski has asked our RI Rural Development Council to co-lead this initiative with the RI Department of Environmental Management, University of RI, and RI Sea Grant, RI Dept of Health and other state agencies (as the Task Force). Invited to participate are key seafood industry companies, industry associations, restaurant and chefs groups, hospitality and tourism associations, fishers, aqua farm cooperatives, and shellfish associations
