Our Purpose

We are sugar kelp farmers, growing a zero-input, native ocean crop that not only fuels a healthy human and animal food economy, but offers a suite of profound ecosystem services. Our sugar kelp is a winter crop and we are aiming to expand our nacent industry beyond culinary market channels, to providing kelp for bioplastic production, biofuels, soil amendment/carbon capture & sequestration, and as animal feed to reduce methane production and keep our animal agriculture industry healthy for all. We are also aiming to reform and participate in the ecosystem service market place globally, allowing kelp and other sustainable ocean farms like mine to recieve payments for the environmental good we are doing. In all this potential, we embed real-world learning (eco-tours) and connection opportunties (classes) within Rhode Island and Connecticut to bring students, families, and groups from all backgrounds and interests to experience ocean farming and re-establish a connection with nature that can heal while providing direct employment and shape a future workforce for small environmental businesses.  In 2023, we secured an oyster and clam farm that we plan to utilize as a real-world "habitat hub" and learning space for BIPOC youth in Rhode Island.
