Our Purpose

Rhode Island Coalition of Black Women (RICBW) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for the education, health, and economic empowerment of Black women and girls in Rhode Island. Our purpose for soliciting Grassroots Funding is to empower the Black community by creating a sustainable and educational space where individuals can learn how to grow their own food and adopt healthier eating habits. We believe that access to fresh, nutritious food is a critical factor in reducing the health disparities that disproportionately affect Black and LatinX communities, such as diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. By establishing a community garden, we aim to provide hands-on education about growing food and making healthier dietary choices, while fostering a sense of community and self-sufficiency. This initiative is not only about addressing immediate food needs, but also about cultivating long-term health and wellness, ultimately contributing to a stronger, healthier future for our community.
