The group received a grant in 2011 to help with community outreach and to cover the costs of expert witnesses for an upcoming Development Review Board meeting.
Responsible Growth Hinesburg
Our Purpose
The group formed to oppose a proposed 36,000 sf store with accompanying 130-car parking lot on a 4.6 acre site in Hinesburg. The project is incompatible with the character of the neighborhood, contradicts our Official Map (which designates this parcel for community facilities), would cause traffic and stormwater problems, would replace a locally-owned grocery store that has been in business for over 90 years, and would significantly devalue the federal, state, and local investment made in creating a canal walk next to Lot 15.In the over seven years during which the group has been meeting twice a month, discussions and education have led to an ever broader vision for us as citizens of the Town. We see the need to be more "big picture," for example, looking at stormwater from a Town-wide perspective rather than piecemeal, supporting visionary candidates for Town-wide offices and committees, etc. Why do we want to do this work?--because we care deeply about our Town and want to make it the best possible place for young and old to live and work and play.
