The Residents fro Alternatives to Trashing Southbridge received a small grant in 2008 to gather information, cover legal expenses and for public relations regarding the potential expansion of the Southbridge landfill. The landfill expansion would increase the amount of municipal solid waste to sixteen times what it is currently.Concerns include air and water quality, proximity to airport, traffic hazards and hazardous waste clean up.

to oppose Casella Wastes plan to make Southbridge a raw garbage dump for the state. to call on the Southbridge Board of Health to protect public health from the dangers of contaminated air and water. toxic gases and overall environmental degradation by denying Casella Wastes application.
