Racial Equity Training for Young People in Maine
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to eliminate racism through training, conversation, and deep, difficult work that is tailored to the needs of different groups of people while generating a common language around racism. We, as a coalition of representatives from organizations and schools across southern Maine, have partnered with the Racial Equity Insititute to plan a two-day training in March that is specifically designed for high-school age youth, who are too often left out or not accounted for in the spaces in which these learning opportunities occur. This training will seek to inform and empower these young people -- who are already leaders in their schools, networks, and communities-- towards the goal of racial awareness, consideration, and activism in all of the work that these young people are already and will be partaking in, as well as a collective force of young voices to bring these learning opportunities to more young people across the state, who are hungry for an honest, open, informed dialogue about the ways that race and racism shape all of our lives and our work.
