Protect Geprags Park
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to prevent further construction of Vermont Gas Addison Natural Gas Pipeline Project, and to halt operation of phase one construction! We fought the routing of the pipeline through Geprags Park in a legal challenge now pending with the Supreme Court. Since then we have filed numerous public records requests and spent hundreds of hours comparing documents and learning about pipeline engineering and construction in order to understand, detail and then challenge VGS on their failure to construct in accordance with permits and regulations. We are now engaged in a second legal challenge before the Public Service Commission over their failure to bury the pipeline deep enough. We essentially forced VGS to admit their failure in one location because we took photographs and delivered them to the federal and state authorities. VGS filed in June for a "nonsubstantial change" to their permit over this matter, a year after they knew it was too shallow. We are demanding an independent survey of the entire route. The new PUC chair has agreed to open an investigation and we are right now filing responses. We believe the serious safety violations have potential to require the pipeline to be shut down. Certainly if and when another phase of construction is proposed, a much higher bar will have been set to ensure there is proper oversight and understanding of the issues! In the bigger sense, our mission is to protect our communities, from climate change, from pipeline failures, and from corporate land grabs (eminent domain takings).
