Portland Food Co-op
Our Purpose
to open a full grocery store in fall 2014. The original vision for PFC included four initial goals: supporting the local economy, building the local food movement, creating a shared local business, and providing families with healthy, affordable food. After existing as a co-op but functioning as a buying club for 5 years, the Portland Food Co-op (PFC) is moving forward with a plan. The new store will be a grocery store, cooperatively owned by members and open to the public. It will offer a wide selection of high quality and fairly priced local, organic, and natural foods and household products. We also plan to operate in an environmentally sensitive manner as possible (e.g. minimally packaged foods) We have committed to hiring at least four employees from the low-income community where the building will be located. The board is partnering with the city of Portland and will advertise job openings with organizations that service low-income individuals and recent immigrants.
