Perennials for Pollinators Project
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to restore pollinator populations. The serious decline of pollinators requires an engagement over time of many volunteers working together to repopulate habitats. Through my website and other virtual accounts, I’ll continue to educate others about the need to act and how community groups can meet this challenge effectively with the use of pollinator garden kits. I am committed to the long-term term effort this issue requires. Pollinator Gardening Kits are at the heart of this project. They require little effort and supply everything needed to produce a bounty of seedlings. They are composed of 12 pots filled with soil and seed and enclosed in a 16” x 20” frame covered with a protective mesh that keeps them from being eaten by birds or rodents. They are taken home and then placed outside in early winter when the effects of global warming have diminished. The most important focus at this phase is to secure funding to make and give away 45 Pollinator Garden Kits that will provide enough seedlings to make adequate habitats in the Spring. Also, offering these kits spreads information and enthusiasm for the project. The big picture goal is to establish an on-going process to sustain the effort to reestablish habitats in my own community and to inspire other communities in the New England area to adopt this process and form their own group of volunteers, and for this project to become a non-profit organization.
