Our purpose is to sustain and expand our school/community garden. Our school garden emphasizes nutrition education, sustainable agriculture, and community beautification and teamwork. We aim to transform under-used schoolyard space into an educational and edible garden while teaching students healthy and sustainable habits.The P.E.Bowe school garden focuses on five areas/goals:Gardening: to create a successful, sustainable garden;students learn how to run their own successful home gardensNutrition: to produce food for students and Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen;to improve children’s diet and eating habitsEnvironment: to improve the school’s natural campusEducation: to reinforce some areas of the school curriculum;to reinforce planning, decision making, collaboration, and responsibilityCommunity: to bring together school, students, families and community around a common vision
