Our Open Umbrella (OOU) was formed around a simple belief: every child deserves to have their basic needs met and the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances. Our goal is to identify gaps that leave children and families without essential support and find practical, compassionate ways to fill them.Our work has evolved in direct response to needs we have seen in our community. Sometimes that need is small but immediate—a student without a snack, clean socks, deodorant, or appropriate clothing for school. Other times, a family may be facing a larger or unexpected challenge involving food, transportation, housing, or another expense that threatens their stability. OOU strives to be flexible enough to respond to both.Through our School Supply Program, General and Emergency Support, and Refresh clothing program in partnership with the Greater Attleboro Area Council for Children, we work to create multiple pathways for families to receive help, often through trusted schools and community partners already connected to them.Our larger goal is not to duplicate services that already exist, but to help create a stronger network of support around local children and families. We want to remove barriers, respond quickly when gaps arise, connect families with additional resources when appropriate, and ensure children can have their needs met with dignity and without judgment.
