Our Open Umbrella Inc
Our Purpose
Our Open Umbrella (OOU) is a 501c3 nonprofit founded in 2020 to provide a fair chance to every student by ensuring they have what they need to be healthy and productive, specifically supporting clothing needs and emergency support. In January 2023, management of our Fuel for the Weekend Program (FFTW) was transferred to the Hockomock YMCA who will continue to grow the program to local communities, enabling us to focus on a new initiative: creating a free clothing program for children and teens, named Refresh. Refresh aims to bridge the gap in clothing security among children while promoting clothing reuse and environmental sustainability. Operating since August 2023 from rented space in downtown North Attleboro, Refresh provides age, size, and seasonally appropriate clothing to local students and families at no cost. In addition, the Refresh program also reduces textile waste, decreases the demand for new clothing production, and promotes recycling and reuse by taking in clothing donations from people who no longer need the clothes and providing the clothing items to those who need it. OOU aims to sustain and enhance Refresh through fundraising and grant applications to continue serving children in need in our community and beyond.
