Our Purpose

Origins of Food explores food systems and food communities. We collaborate with farmers and community organizers at the forefront of agricultural innovation, notably those who are working towards a socially and ecologically just future. We organize food-related travel tours within the U.S. and internationally. We visit urban centers and rural communities while exploring an array of global subjects, from public health and nutrition to farming systems and food justice. From 2016-2019 we ran programs in Peru and Guatemala with university students, highlighting grassroots organizations and indigenous farmers who are working towards solutions to issues caused by globalization and extractive capitalism in their communities. We strongly believe in working directly with local organizations and communities to amplify their voices and build solidarity across borders. We've been on hiatus since COVID, and are currently reorganizing programs for the U.S. and South America.
