Our Purpose

To foster the well-being of our community by providing an exchange network of services and goods that strengthens social cohesion, encourages reciprocity, enhances our local economy and is built on a foundation of respect and equality. Our members include individuals, businesses, and organizations. In the Onion River Exchange (ORE), we exchange time rather than money and  everyone's time is equal. ORE is a time bank and the largest in Vermont. There are five core values to time banking: 1) Everyone is an asset, 2) Some work is beyond a monetary price, 3) Reciprocity in helping, 4) Social networks are necessary, and 5) a respect for all human beings. ORE believes that every Community Member has something meaningful to contribute and should be recognized as an asset. Time banking is a way to bring this belief into action and to use the resources of our community.
