Our Purpose

to support the local economy, protect the environment, and preserve the rural character of Franklin County, by engaging in the permit process to oppose sprawl and environmentally damaging development in the region; and to offer positive reinforcement for responsible development that respects those values.

Summary of Projects

Northwest Citizens for Responsible Growth received a grant in fall 2010 to cover general operating expenses, including events, meeting space, legal fees, PO box, materials, etc. Currently NWCRG is waiting for the Supreme Court to file a court date given the group's most recent appeal, expected in Spring. This will be a final decision regarding the big-box development.

In 2007, NWCRG received a grant to fund expert and lawyer fees in its work to prevent sprawl in St. Albans at the I-89 Exit 19, continue the long battle to stop sprawl at Exit 20 where a 160,000-square foot WalMart is proposed, and educate the public about the consequences of such sprawl.
