Our Purpose

Our purpose is to mobilize Bridgeport residents and supporters who want to eliminate or reduce pollution wherever feasible. Specifically, we do not want O&G, the largest privately-held construction company in Connecticut, to move its Concrete and Asphalt Recycling plant to the West End, near the South End, Black Rock and Seaside Park. These areas are densely populated and already host an asphalt plant, stone crushing facility, concrete plant, trash to energy incinerator, sewage treatment plant, and biohazard waste disposal facility. Silica dust, noise, and truck exhaust generated by the new plant would bring us to the environmental breaking point. We hope to encourage more benign uses for the property, ones that will employee more people and generate more tax revenue for the city. The city already has an iniative in place to create an Eco-Industrial Park in this area. Once we have stopped the O&G move, we plan to explore what we can do to reduce or eliminate pollution from other sources near our neighborhoods, schools, and parks.
