Our Purpose

As our planet continues to warm, children are more vulnerable to the health impacts of climate change. The threat is even greater for children living in underserved communities, who have less access to resources that help foster resilience. Rooted in equity, the goal of our project is to protect the physical and mental health of these children and their families, and to educate them about how to stay healthy and safe in the face of current and future obstacles. The Climate Health Initiative for Caregivers and Kids, or CHICKs, works to achieve this goal by taking a community-integrated approach to supporting families in rural and urban New Hampshire. Our Adventures in Climate and Health Curriculum has been designed to be adapted for both inside and outside the classroom, and has a pathway to reach and connect with parents through take home materials. Acknowledging the existing information gap, CHICKs also creates resource guides tailored to specific regions, offering families practical ways to make their homes safer and healthier. Additionally, recognizing the mental health impact of climate change, we host climate cafés, providing parents and caregivers with a space to discuss their concerns and explore solutions together. Our program is dedicated to empowering children and families in underserved communities to build resilience in the face of a changing climate. By replicating this approach throughout NH, we hope to build a better future for all people in the Granite State.
