Our Purpose

Our mission is to foster environmental stewardship and human development in New Haven by promoting citizen participation and community action through education, institutional co-operation and professional guidance.New Haven URI, a non-profit organization affiliated with the Yale Forestry School, has worked for 20 years in partnership with community groups to replant and reclaim New Haven's environment. We carry out this work through our Community Greenspace program (launched in 1995). Annually 50 community groups and carry out locally initiated projects such as street tree planting, park improvements, and transforming vacant lots into pocket parks. Our hope is collectively restoring the environment also builds stronger communities.
