Muslim Justice Center
Our Purpose
The Muslim Justice Center (“MJC”) was formed in response to the systematic and enduring discrimination faced by Muslims and Muslim-adjacent individuals in Connecticut. Although the organization itself is somewhat new, the work comprising it has been done informally for years by seasoned organizers. Our big picture goal is to contribute to the construction of a just, equitable society wherein Muslims, diverse in origin, practice, and identity are afforded full dignity, safety, and access to justice. This work is born not of abstraction, but of necessity. We exist because existing institutions have repeatedly failed to meet the legal, cultural, and social needs of our Community. MJC was created to fill that void with care, strategy, and community-rooted advocacy. We aim to not only coordinate legal resources, but to shift the conditions that make such coordination necessary and to act as both a shield and a scaffold for our community. Our work is grounded in the belief that justice must be both procedural and lived. Through culturally competent legal coordination, civil rights advocacy, and intra-communal enrichment, we strive to build a Connecticut in which Muslims are not merely surviving, but are seen, protected, and empowered to thrive. MJC is, therefore, not just an organization, it is an intervention. It is a response to crisis, and a commitment to transformation.
