Mt. Washington Valley Citizens for Energy Efficient Communities
Our Purpose
Seeing the absence of town energy committees in Carroll County, we formed this volunteer organization to promote the economic and environmental benefits of improving energy efficiency in the Mount Washington Valley. This small committee emerged from a county wide initiative started in 2009 called Carroll County United, which was then a comprehensive community action program that encompassed all aspects of community life from education, health, the economy, to the environment. Our particular team focused on balancing economic development and environmental stewardship. We are successful in hosting wood bio mass tours, sharing town cost savings and implementation success stories, showing municipal officials and school administrators that tracking energy costs is the first step to implementing change in energy consumption, and that community developed energy plans and/or energy chapters in town master plans are useful tools . During 2016 we have been organizing energy for planning boards presentations, working with local towns and schools to explore solar PV, and offering our volunteer services to anyone interested in upgrading building efficiency through weatherization and lighting upgrades. It is now our goal to offer a solarize campaign to the 13 town area with a kick-off planned for January 2017.
