Migrant Justice
Our Purpose
to build the voice, capacity and power of migrant workers in Vermont, and engages allies to create more socially and economically just farming communities and food systems. Since our founding, Migrant Justice has involved migrant farm workers in discussions and actions surrounding the sustainability of Vermont's dairy farming. In a state where people are concerned about where and how their food originates, we believe that Vermonters must also take into account their neighbors who milk the cows to produce their cherished dairy products. In late 2010, Migrant Justice partnered with Fairfield Community Center to start a local Farmworker Assembly, whose purpose is to bring migrant farmworkers together to envision what a healthy, fair and inclusive farming community would look like by developing a set of labor and housing standards and then partnering with local farmer allies to implement the standards.
