to build a school community garden on school grounds to serve as an education resource for the school and the greater community. Our group affiliated with the Middletown Springs Elementary School was the recipient of a 2011 Vermont Community School Community Garden mini-grant from the Friends of Burlington Gardens. The Garden Group works with school community members and students to teach/learn about growing and preparing healthy food for themselves and to supply the school kitchen with fresh, organically grown vegetables for school meals. This year we are collaborating with the school's staff, teachers, and kitchen staff to frame garden activities that enhance classroom curriculum and add to community education opportunities.
