Our Purpose

to foster an appreciation of the natural environment, with an emphasis on bird conservation. To accomplish this mission, Merrymeeting Audubon hosts numerous field trips to natural areas throughout mid-coast Maine and beyond. We provide a public lecture series, offer scholarships to youth conservation camps, and actively participate in local conservation issues to engage local citizens and lend support for grassroots efforts.

Summary of Projects

The Merrymeeting Audubon Society received a grant in 2009 to preserve a regionally significant chimney swift roost and, in doing so, build public awareness and appreciation for local wildlife and the inseparable ties between human decisions and consequences for other species with which we share the planet. The project offers an opportunity to partner with a local school department and municipality to implement a meaningful wildlife conservation strategy on the grounds of an elementary school where nature experience and evidence that individual actions can make a difference is so vitally needed.
