Our Purpose

Our overarching goal is to reduce  our communities’ reliance on fossil fuels, mitigate the inequitable social and economic impacts of climate change, and educate residents about sustainability while fostering community connections.  We empower participants to build energy-saving interior storm windows, helping households lower heating costs and reduce carbon emissions. These inserts are low-cost because we use all volunteer labor; however, we also offer these inserts free or for a donation (of any amount decided by recipient)  to those who identify as needing assistance.  By collaborating with diverse community groups—including the Canterbury Energy Committee, Loudon Lions club, local schools, churches, food pantries and  farmers' markets -  we reach out to households of all income levels who can benefit from energy-saving window inserts.   We are motivated to do this project because we are convinced we need to lower carbon emissions and we know that those with lowest incomes often have the highest energy burdens.  We are gratified by the positive responses of users that these make a real difference in their comfort and that their heating is now more affordable. We believe the model of bringing together all who receive inserts to work together creates important community connections that increase our communities' ability to be resilient to the negative impacts of climate change.
