Our Purpose

The Massachusetts Coalition for Domestic Workers (MCDW) works to bring racial and social justice and dignity to all domestic workers in our state.  Founded in 2010 by a Steering Committee comprised of the Brazilian Workgroup, the Dominican Development Center, and Matahari Women’s Workers Center, the MCDW was the driving force in passing the Massachusetts Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights (DWBoR) in April 2014. The passing of DWBOR  was an important step in Massachusetts' long history of leading the country with respect to workplace rights.  With this legislation, the Commonwealth recognized and addressed domestic workers' vulnerability to exploitation.  The DWBOR includes provisions to ensure that domestic workers, have basic rights including reasonable rest periods, lawfully paid wages, privacy, protections upon termination, and coverage under the Commonwealth’s anti-discrimination and anti-retaliation laws.
