Maine Youth for Climate Justice

Our Purpose

Maine Youth for Climate Justice (MYCJ) is a coalition of 400 youth across Maine who fight for bold climate action, a just transition, and a livable future. MYCJ provides community to youth climate activists in Maine; streamlines resources, training, educational resources, and opportunities from trusted adult-led and intergenerational groups to youth; unites the efforts and voices of youth-led climate and environmental justice groups from across the state; advocates for more equitable climate action and policies at the state, local, and occasionally regional levels; and pushes for narrative change on climate change, shifting conversations to be more focused on climate justice. Acknowledging that the climate crisis is rooted in systemic forms of oppression, and disproportionately impacts marginalized communities, MYCJ aims to center the voices of folks who have been historically excluded from Maine's climate movement. MYCJ was founded by youth-led groups, Maine Youth Action Network, and 350 Maine in February 2019. Since 2019, MYCJ has been fiscally considered a project of 350 Maine and Maine Climate Action Now (MCAN). It is now in the process of becoming its own independent organization.
