Our Purpose
The Maine Women & Non-binary in Aquaculture Network was formed with the vision of creating a stronger and more connected support system for women and non-binary individuals working across Maine's aquaculture industry. Women and non-binary individuals remain underrepresented in the industry, with many facing gendered barriers, limited access to mentorship, and challenges that can be difficult to navigate in isolation. Our goal is to build a grassroots, member-driven community for women and non-binary people to connect and share knowledge across regions, sectors, and levels of experience. By creating opportunities for informal networking, mentorship, and peer-to-peer learning, we hope to make it easier for members to find support, ask questions, exchange ideas, and navigate shared challenges in community. We want the network to be shaped by the people it serves and anticipate it continuing to evolve organically through member conversations and gatherings. Ultimately, we hope to strengthen and amplify the voices of women and non-binary people in aquaculture and contribute to a more equitable and resilient industry in Maine.
