Our Purpose

Our purpose is to promotes conservation of intertidal marine habitat, including rockweed (seaweed) forests.  We organized as a "kitchen table" group around 2008 in response to intense commercial seaweed harvests that threatened our fishermen's livelihoods and local wildlife, including wildlife on the Maine list of birds in decline. We became 501c3 in 2021. Recently we have added threatened salt marshes to our work, documenting the disappearance of salt marsh grasses locally.
