Maine Partnership for Enviornmental Stewardship - Orono
Our Purpose
My name is Alicia Oberholzer, and I am currently serving with AmeriCorps Maine as the Energy Efficiency Coordinator at UMaine’s Office of Sustainability. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Stetson University, with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Psychology. My diverse research experiences with the natural sciences have taught me that while we have the scientific and technological advancements to restore and conserve our planet, we don’t have the collective will to do so. After completing an internship in analytical chemistry at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, I was left with a deep desire to understand the human dimensions of climate change mitigation. This desire galvanized me to serve with the Maine Partnership for Environmental Stewardship Initiative. Our team's purpose is to facilitate technical and behavioral interventions to increase local and regional energy efficiency, especially for low-income households, and for higher education institutions. The main highlights of our service include: fundraising over $3,000 for the Maine Partnership for Environmental Stewardship via grant applications and community outreach, providing over 50 low-income households with light weatherization services, starting a food recovery program at UMaine for low-income members of Bangor, and establishing a successful Green Office Certification program at UMaine.
