Our Purpose

Maine Immigrant and Refugee Services (MEIRS) is a 501(c)3 ethnic community-based organization, located in Lewiston, Maine. MEIRS was founded in 2008  by refugees and continues today to be led by members of the communities it serves. MEIRS maintains a mission to educate, assist, and empower immigrant and refugee youth and their families, toward the goals of social and economic self-sufficiency and mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. MEIRS’ efforts to support these youth and families hinges on the  provision of linguistically and culturally appropriate services. As such, MEIRS employs a staff who speak a combined nine languages.
