Maine Environmental Education Association
Our Purpose
The Maine Environmental Education Association enhances and amplifies the efforts of individuals and organizations building environmental awareness, appreciation, understanding, and action in Maine. MEEA uses the power of education to build communities in Maine that are just, sustainable, resiliant and where individuals within those communities are civically engaged. With our youth-led Changemakers program we are currently focused on connecting isolated young Mainers from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about the environment with each other, mentors, and the resources they need to lead forward environmental action in their community. We are also focused on building a more equitable and inclusive environmental sector in Maine. We are analyzing the work of our organization through an equity lens and shifting our internal funcation as well as we are doing external work around equity by providing needed learning opportunities, a paid 6 month fellowship program for youth engaged in work at the intersection of social justice and the environmental, building youth power by nominating them for external awards and fellowships and creating opportunities for youth and educators in our network to attend external equity trainings.
