Our Purpose

The Leach Library's Mission Statement:  The Leach Public Library strives to serve the people of Irasburg by providing free, relevant and meaningful learning opportunities through literature, technology and programs.  The Library is a fixture of the community, enriching the lives of children, adults and seniors alike, as it has since 1926.  The goal of the Leach Public Library Enrichment Outreach Program is to make available professional, high-interest and varied after-school and summer enrichment for Irasburg's school children.  A subsidiary group has formed over the last two years that is dedicated to well-rounded and diverse educational opportunities for Irasburg children and beyond.  Our coalition began last year and grew around the Library Reading Garden project, which NEGREF helped to fund.  Since that beginning, we have become a vocal and active presence in this community, advocating for high quality education in the form of enrichment and local connections, including partnerships with GMFTS, Siskin Ecological Adventures, area farms, local food, and much more.  We are dedicated to this work for two reasons: 1.  A public library is the perfect conduit for enrichment programs like this one.  These sorts of projects diversify the purpose of a library, expanding its importance in the community.  The Leach Library is no longer a center of just book circulation.  It has become a community center, full of vibrancy and the bustle of a healthy town.  2.  Our group wants to give the children of this community the best education possible because we know that the future depends on their love of learning.
