Latino Outdoors Boston
Our Purpose
Latino Outdoors is a national organization with smaller chapters out of cities/regions across the U.S. Our mission is to “inspire, connect, and engage Latino communities in the outdoors and embrace cultura y familia as part of the outdoor narrative, ensuring our history, heritage, and leadership are valued and represented.”It’s no secret that the outdoors and outdoor industries have been gatekept from communities of color and made financially out of reach for lower income folks for decades. In order to deconstruct the status quo on a local level, Latino Outdoors Boston has been working to provide free/low-cost outdoor opportunities for local Latine adults and families with the goal of making outdoor spaces and activities more inclusive and accessible, all while building an intentional community and empowering Latines to recreate outdoors in new ways on their own.In addition to the main physical activities of our outings, we try to share information on the Indigenous lands that we are occupying and on the local ecosystem/conservation efforts of the land that we’re on, often bilingually in English and Spanish. We have a volunteer team of around nine active volunteers that help plan, organize, and carry out events. Some of us have an outdoor education background, but the majority of us do not. All of us are driven by our love and appreciation for the outdoors and the passion to share that love with the Greater Boston Latine community.
