Our Purpose

Our organization's mission is to reduce stress and provide support for farmers, fishermen, aquaculture growers, and foresters in Rhode Island. We’ve built a network of services for workers and their families, and we’re committed to providing programs that help individuals thrive in these industries long-term. That means taking a holistic approach to well-being, by offering support for both mind and body, and addressing the systemic issues that make farming and fishing such challenging occupations. Our initial needs assessment found these groups grappling with financial anxieties, health insurance issues, land access challenges, climate change, substance use disorders, and more. To help address these needs, we offer free 24/7, multilingual, confidential support from a RI-based Employee Assistance Program, consultation for elder and childcare assistance, qualified referrals to the most effective financial and legal resources in terms of expertise, location, cost and availability, and access to up to three free counseling sessions with a licensed clinician. We also offer free mediation services and succession planning, workshops in financial planning, conflict resolution, and self-care. And while mental health is our focus, our network of partners that we’ve fostered across the state has been our greatest asset. We’re excited to be an important part of our small and vibrant Rhode Island food system!
