Our Purpose

The mission of Kittery Climate Action Now (KCAN) is to engage our community on climate-related issues and to advocate for actions that make Kittery more resilient and sustainable. Our vision is a healthy, just, energy efficient, and resilient community where current and future generations can thrive.
Kittery CAN is a new group that began meeting in fall 2019 to create more engagement and action around climate and sustainability solutions in our community. We will act as advocates when the Kittery Town Council considers recommendations of the town-sanctioned Climate Adaptation Committee, and push for more aggressive climate initiatives and investments.  In late fall 2019, a core group of environmental activists catalysed this new advocacy group, met with community leaders, and connected with a sister organization in neighboring York (York Ready for 100) that has made tremendous progress in two years. We have since adopted a name and developed a mission and vision statement. We are identifying a set of focus areas, developing a website, Facebook page and email marketing platform, and planning a community launch event in September. We are eager to grow our group, partner with other community organizations, create a lively forum for climate action, and make great things happen in Kittery.
