Our Purpose

Our purpose is to create a thriving community garden that provides our elementary students with the opportunity to grow, learn, and connect through gardening. Our students come from low-income, immigrant families, and/or broken families. We aim to cultivate a space where these children can engage with nature, develop hands-on skills in sustainability, and gain access to fresh, nutritious produce. Through gardening, these children will see worth in their abilities, inspire confidence, and develop new funds of knowledge. By integrating garden-based education into their daily learning, we seek to empower students to understand the importance of healthy eating, environmental stewardship, and teamwork. Our garden will serve as a safe, inclusive space where diverse cultural backgrounds are celebrated, fostering a sense of belonging and collaboration among students, families, and the wider community. The garden will be maintained by an afterschool club and students who are unable to attend the afterschool club, will be given rotating and optional turns to learn and work in the garden during recess.Through this initiative, we strive to inspire a lifelong love for nature and healthy living, while addressing food insecurity and promoting environmental responsibility in our urban neighborhood. With this grant, we will create a more equitable and sustainable world for both the present and the future.
