Jewish Climate Action Network-MA
Our Purpose
The Jewish Climate Action Network (JCAN), a loose affiliation of groups in four cities, was founded in Boston, MA, and coordinates Jewish institutions and activists to respond to the global, human, existential climate emergency. JCAN seeks to (a) sound a clarion Tikiah, an urgent and visionary Jewish voice commensurate with the climate crisis; (b) build relationships with leaders in Jewish and other communal organizations who deal with the environment and environmental justice; (c) inspire and mobilize Jewish communities to take leadership and participate in bold climate campaigns; and (d) develop and provide material and informational resources to allies working on climate change action. JCAN-MA serves the Jewish community with local programming in Massachusetts and webinars and conferences with a national reach. JCAN’s work includes: Education (resources, conferences, classes, and webinars on issues relating to Judaism and climate change, including greening synagogues, lifestyles, spiritual and emotional resilience, and climate justice); Activism (participating in campaigns such as the People's Climate Marches and Global Climate Strikes and advocating for laws that combat climate change and enhance environmental justice); and Organizing (for holistic sustainability in Jewish institutions, e.g., by working with green teams to reduce carbon emissions and encourage fossil fuel free financial investment).
