Our Purpose

By bringing Indigenous (Native American) knowledge to the center of historical and geographical consciousness of local populations, Indigenous New Hampshire seeks to decolonize the dominant narrative about the past of the region. This knowledge empowers sustainable resource management including local land and water. The group aims to promote grassroots democracy by introducing students and community members to the process of collaboration among Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members. Group members present products of their collaboration at local schools, community events and historical societies and through the creation and use of online platforms that promote public education, including an ArcGIS Story Map (an interactive map) that features important Abenaki places on the familiar landscape of seacoast New Hampshire.
