The proposed project is reaching out to an ethnic minority population with an intervention targeting overweight and obesity and their associated co-morbidities, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.  This proposal addresses the following health areas: (1); overweight and obesity among children and adolescents (2) Type 2 diabetes,  (3) coronary heart disease and stroke.The targeted population is the Haitian community of greater Boston.  The 2000 U.S. Census reported that the number of persons in Massachusetts claiming Haitian ancestry was 43,576, comprising 0.7% of the state’s population. Most of this population is clustered in greater Boston.U.S.  Our goal is to decrease the incidence rate of obesity among children and youth participating in the program while promoting proper nutrition and physical activity
