HOWL: A Vermont Women's Land Trust
Our Purpose
HOWL's overarching purpose is to be a sanctuary and hub for diverse communities, fostering inclusivity, environmental stewardship, and outdoor recreation. Through its unique 50 acres of land held in trust, its community house and barn, and its miles of multi-use recreational trails through fields and forest, HOWL aims to provide a safe and welcoming space for women, trans people of any gender identity, and nonbinary people, in particular BIPOC and queer communities. HOWL was founded in the late 1980s and has recently seen an influx of volunteers organizing to keep the organization active, inclusive, and fulfilling its highest potential of service to the movement and broader community. The organization strives to empower and connect these communities through various programs, workshops, and events, promoting wellness, environmental awareness, and community building. HOWL envisions a future where its land is a hub for climate justice organizing; regenerative economies; political education; incubation of projects and small businesses including community-focused farms, gardens, and food forests; radical access to and stewardship of green space; and more.
