Our purpose is to provide financial literacy and business development education to the Southern Hamden community. For the past several months our agency has been mapping out small businesses in Hamden and measuring their success rates as well as their challenges to strive as successful entrepreneurs. Our goal is to provide financial literacy to the public at large so that they can afford to buy homes, pay taxes and to also enegergize the spirit of entrepreneurship. Recently, our organization had a community meeting and people from the community had the opportunity to speak about challenges in their community. One women got up with tears in her eyes that her community lacks information on how to purchase a home and how to start businesses. " There are no Chamber of Commerce events in my neighborhood. The banks in my neighborhood always offer me saving and checking options but, does not offer me a path to homeownership". I was present during that meeting and her words touched not only me but, the entire room. That evening I approached the constituent and took down her information. Within a week we were able to connect and now she is starting her path to homeownership with options of closing cost assistance and down payment assistance. This fund will help our organization reach out to more businesses and families in need of getting the information, workshops and promote Southern Hamden business community especially after during Covid19.
