Our Purpose

to promote a sustainable community and planet, and to organize cooperative community actions which promote climate stability, energy conservation, and carbon reduction. Based on the barnraising model, HEET brings neighbors together to weatherize homes in order to reduce the carbon footprint of specific houses, teach participants skills they can use to make their own homes more energy efficient, and build a sense of community.

Summary of Projects

HEET received a grant in 2010 to sustain basic monthly barnraising operations in Cambridge while the organization continues the process of transitioning from an all-volunteer group to an incorporated nonprofit that strikes the balance between a strong volunteer base and some form of paid staff. In 2009 the group received a grant to expand capacity by creating a part-time staff position, build a fund for weatherization materials for low-income barnraisings, enable the purchase of liability insurance, and create a website.
