Our purpose is to provide engaging, hands on learning opportunities for the children and youth of our community. We feel that by helping plan, plant, tend to and harvest the garden, children are able to create a relationship with the natural world, gain an understanding of where their food comes from and cultivate attributes and life skills such as responsibility, independence, leadership empathy/caring, teamwork and problem solving. We also strive to create an inter-generational community connection through the gardening season and into the fall when the children prepare and share the bounty of their hard work with the senior citizens of the Highgate.
